General Updates

Hey everyone!

General updates:

  • Thanks to everyone who showed up for the coffee house! It was great: sexuality educator Debbie Roffman helped sort out our common misconceptions about the differences between sex, sexuality, biological gender, gender identity, and gender roles. I especially want to thank all the people who came from outside of the GLSEN community.

  • The AIMS “Making Schools Safe Conference” (where a bunch of Maryland Independent schools got together to talk about issues of sexuality and gender identity) also went well. There was a student panel (on which our own Jazmin talked), smaller and large group discussions, and a PFLAG panel. It was interesting to see what other schools were doing.

One student even noted that there should be an organization that holds events, such as coffeehouses and summits, for the school GBTLS (or, more profoundly: GBBLTSHHXTWYEL) community. Guess what: that’s us! We’re always trying to get more people involved (and there seems to be a need for an organization like ourselves), so please spread the word).

  • We’re planning on having a dance! This will happen after the Day of Silence and will act as a type of celebration. We have secured the space at Towson University, but are still working out the smaller details. We’ll post the details as soon as possible.

Anyways, if you want to help plan this dance (the more planning, the better) please email us (glsenbalto@earthlink.net) or come to a planning meeting on February 27th (please email for time/location). We especially need a band or DJ for the dance, if you know anyone who would be willing to do this (for a small amount of $), please tell us. Because, really, dances are no fun without music.

    Have a good one!
